Cavalry
A lancer on a horse: the dearest and fastest soldier, it rides archers down and raids, and breaks on a braced spear.
The cavalry has 200 hit points and moves at 115.2, 2.1 times the warrior’s pace. It is trained at the Barracks, from Level 5 · Full war, and costs 45 gold and 2.25 gold/min to keep. A new barracks starts with its cavalry switched off: switch it on in the barracks’ panel.
The charge
With a foe between 80 and 230 away, the rider stops and a red lane shows on the ground for 0.45 s. Then it rushes 210 along it, striking everyone in its path once for 1.5 times its blow. It throws each one 80 back and off their feet, as a troll’s slam does (a wild beast’s charge throws 40), and rides on. After the rush it stands for 0.8 s, taking 2 times the damage, and charges again 7 s later.
Shields and spears
A Warrior’s raised shield stops the rush there: 100 % of its blow goes through the shield, and the rider is neither hurt nor left standing open. A Lancer braces: the rider’s blow lands on it, then the rider runs onto the spear, takes 1.8 times the lancer’s thrust and stands there, open.
Two riders joust: a rider sidesteps another rider’s rush 50 % of the time.
Arrows
On the move, a rider sidesteps 60 % of an Archer’s arrows (a tower’s arrows are not dodged). Standing still to strike, or after its rush, it dodges none.
Horses and trees
In a forest the cavalry moves at 50 % of its pace (others keep 70 %), and its charge stops where the trees begin.
How to use it
- Ride down Archers: they cannot step away from a horse. A mass of archers who stand their ground shoots riders down while they strike: take them by a flank, or while your warriors draw their arrows.
- Keep it off Lancers; against Warriors it is an even trade.
- Its pace hunts gold couriers; but it never sets foot on the land, so it takes a province at 50 % of a soldier’s pace (provinces). Its upkeep is the highest in the army.
- Archers in a forest are safe from its charge.
