Catapult

The Catapult: a siege engine its builders pull, throwing stones where you aim at troops and buildings of both sides.

The Catapult takes 40 s to raise and costs 250 gold, from the build fund or gold like any building. Finished, it is a piece: a catapult on wheels, with 2 pawns (its builders) ahead of it. They pull it by ropes where you send it, at 30 a second (half with one, never with none: the castle sends new ones). It holds one shot; fired, it cools down for 5 s, then its crew loads the next for 15 s, only while it stands still. It costs 8 gold/min while it stands, and it never strikes on its own: guard it, as the enemy will go for it and its crew.

In hand, the hand panel shows how it stands (loaded, cooling down or loading, and its crew), with Fire and Scrap: scrapped, it comes down in 3 s (again: call it off), with 50 % of its cost back, and its crew walks home.

Aiming and firing

  1. Raise it. Y on the build bar, paid like any building. Its two builders raise it, then stay on as its crew: finished, it is a catapult on wheels.
  2. Pull it. Click the catapult, then right click: its crew pulls it there by ropes, 30 a second (half with one of them left, never with none). It never strikes on its own.
  3. Aim. K (or Fire on its panel). The band is its range, 300 to 1000: too near is grey, and a click does nothing there. The arc follows the cursor; the red ring is the blast.
  4. Fire!. Click: it stops, and the stone flies for 2.5 seconds. The rival sees the ring closing in and can walk out; everything left inside, of both sides, takes the blow. It cools down 5 s, then its crew loads it 15 s, standing still.

Pick your catapult, then press K (or Fire on the hand panel) to aim: the stone’s arc follows the cursor, and a ring shows the blast. It lands between 300 and 1,000 from the catapult, in the fog too. Click to fire; right click, Esc or K stops aiming. By touch, drag the aim and press Fire!.

The blast

  • The catapult stops to fire: 20 s later, if it stood still, it can fire again.
  • The stone flies 2.5 s and lights the fog round it for its owner. Meanwhile the rival sees a red ring where it will land.
  • Everything inside the ring, of both sides, takes 360 damage at the centre down to 74 at the edge (radius 54, the same in every direction: the ring is only drawn flattened), and is thrown back.
  • A castle keeps at least 1 hit point.

Mind: The rival has 2.5 s to walk out of the ring. Fire at what cannot move: buildings, a siege, a crowd in a fight.
